I vote Pixies. Certainly more influential, and they're still currently on an upswing (or at the top of a bubble), whereas Wilco's fortunes have been on the decline since YHF.
The Pixies are bigger in terms of body of work (I'm guessing, being too lazy to check amazon), fanbase (again, a guess), and historical influence; however, in ten years, Wilco may have overcome the Pixies.
Actually, Wilco is bigger in body of work, Stanley. The Pixies have done a lot of not releasing anything new for a long time, so while they have definitly been around longer, they don't have a bigger body of work. (But their lead singer is kinda big.)
Fanbase is hard to say. Wilco is pretty popular right now. So are the Pixies. They both play Charlottesville, so that's saying something.
Historical influence goes to the Pixies, but does that really have anything to do with bigness? Conversely, can you be a huge band and not have any historical influence?

Frank Black is defintily fatter than anyone in Wilco.
Some people say the Nice Jenkins can be described as a "huge band and not have any historical influence."
I sort of bristle at the "huge" part, though.
